Art Pictures Studio launches sequel to Fedor Bondarchuk's 'Attraction'

The original 3D alien invasion movie was a box-office success in Russia last year. Art Pictures Studio’s head of sales Anna Strunevskaya has confirmed that the script for the second film is complete and that shooting will begin this summer. Bondarchuk is again set to direct and some of the original cast members including Irina Starshenbaum and Oleg Menshikov are set to return.

In Cannes, the company is also pre-selling Egor Abramenko’s $2.5m sci-fi drama The Passenger, produced by Bondarchuk, Dmitry Rudovsky, Alexander Andryushchenko, Mikhail Vrubel, Michael Kitaev, Ilya Stewar and Murad Osmann. Other companies involved alongside Art Pictures Studio are Vodorod and Hype Film.

Currently in production, the film follows spacecraft Orbit-4 as it encounters an aggressive life form in space and accidentally carries it back to earth. In order to survive, surviving crew members must fight the monster from outer space, as well as the state terror machine, a monster no less formidable than the alien.

Another new title on the company’s slate is The Lord of Wind, also shooting this year. The film tells the extraordinary story of Russian adventurer Feodor Konuhov, who made a record-breaking trip around the world in a hot air balloon in 2016, surviving sub-zero conditions, faulty oxygen cylinders and extreme weather.
