  • Synopsis
The year 1942, Stalingrad. The Soviet troops are planning to launch a counterattack towards the German troops holding the right bank of the Volga river. The offensive has failed. Only a few scouts, led by Captain Gromov, manage to make it to the other bank and secure one of the houses there, next ordered to hold the enemy back at all costs. The scouts discover that apart from a handful of Soviet soldiers, who have somehow managed to survive, the house also gives shelter to a nineteen-year-old girl named Katya, the last of the building's lodgers. Meanwhile, Hauptmann Kahn, a German officer, receives orders to retake the building from the Soviets. The confrontation turns into a dramatic tale of love and a faceoff between the warring parties, set against the backdrop of one of the bloodiest battles in the history of mankind...
