The year is 2157. Maxim grew up on planet Earth, in a future where humankind has eradicated disease and hunger, where there are no wars and no terrorism, and human abilities are ‘enhanced’ scientifically. Maxim has dedicated his life to "free roaming" in outer space. After his spacecraft crashes, he finds himself on Saraksh, an inhabited planet, without any hope of ever going back home. Here, he makes friends with a guardsman named Guy, and falls in love with his sister Rada. An awkward, wide-eyed outsider, Maxim sets out to explore this new world, which has now become his home. Then he makes a horrifying discovery: it turns out that the country where Maxim has landed is covered by a wide network of mind control towers. The towers emit invisible radiation, which has a brainwashing effect on citizens, forcing them to believe whatever they are told. Only a small group of people, the so-called "degenerates", or "degens", is able to resist. But when the towers emit the maximum dose of radiation, the degens suffer agonizing pain. The society is ruled by the Unknown Fathers, who are all degens themselves. For them, the tower system is both a means to control the masses, and the source of their suffering. Maxim is the only person who is not affected by the radiation in any way. He becomes the target of a real manhunt, led by two people: Smart, the State Prosecutor; and Wanderer, a mysterious stranger who appears to be close to the Fathers. In order to save himself, his friend, and his love interest, Maxim decides to sabotage the tower system. Stealing a tank, he plows his way through the military cordons, and begins his search for allies beyond the boundaries of the familiar world, among the mutants and the enemies. Maxim is a force to be reckoned with. Who will take his side – the mutants? The barbarian tribes from the desert? The crews of the White Submarines, sent by the Island Empire? Wanderer knows perfectly well how dangerous Maxim is, and he is set on stopping him, doing whatever it takes. They will soon clash in a final battle.
