Our history
Art Pictures Studio is a Moscow-based production company that specializes in sci-fi, horror, and drama. It’s a major Russian film company that has been working in the domestic and international market for 30 years, and since 2019 has become the part of NMG Studio. We are introducing new talents and establish successful creative collaborations with respected filmmakers. While making its projects Art Pictures Studio co-operates with the leading international and Russian companies and TV channels such as Walt Disney, Studios Sony Pictures Releasing, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, IMAX, VGTRK, STS, Channel One, etc.
The list of films released by Art Pictures Studio offers such smash hits as THE 9th COMPANY, STALINGRAD, ATTRACTION and INVASION, all directed by Fedor Bondarchuk; DUKHLESS and DUKHLESS-2 dilogy by Roman Prygunov; HEAT by Rezo Gigineishvili; BATTALION, a war drama by Dmitry Meskhiev, ICE by Oleg Trofim, and ICE 2 by Jora Kryjovnikov. In the beginning of 2021 the company released a romantic comedy RUSSIAN SOUTH (Anton Fedotov) made in production with Vodorod Studio and STS channel.
Art Pictures Studio's recent movie — sci-fi thriller SPUTNIK (by Egor Abramenko) is also becoming a huge hit. The project was viewed more than 1 million times after just one month of online-streaming in Russia and became number 1 on American iTunes (the "Horror" category) right after its USA release. "Sputnik's" Rotten Tomatoes Score is almost 90% — it is the first time when a Russian project is rated this high. In September of 2021 APS released its first documentary "Bondarchuk.BATTLE" focusing on a figure of Academy Award-winning director Sergei Bondarchuk. Helming the project are journalists Anton Jelnov and Denis Kataev with Ilya Belov as a director. Fedor Bondarchuk is producing. The new project — Vasilisa Kuzmina's feature debute and a biographical drama "Nika" about about famous Russian poetess Nika Turbina is on its way.
APS annually features its projects at the most prominent international movie markets: Marche du Film in Cannes, AMF in USA, TIFF in Canada, as well as in film festivals: Kinotavr, Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Films, SXSW Film Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Russian Film Week in Great Britain and many others. Art Pictures Studio is passionately committed to nurturing relationships with the broadest range of international filmmakers and distributors around the world and to devising strategies to maximize the launch of our films in the market.

Our awards
Art Pictures Studio projects are annually awarded with many awards: "Soulless" and "Soulless 2" was twice evaluated for the best male role in the film awards "Golden eagle" (2011) and "NIKA" (2016). Valeria Gaius Germanica's drama "Yes and Yes “(2014) won the prize for best Director at the Moscow International Film Festival, as well as 'NIKA" for best actress performed by Agnia Kuznetsova. Thriller "Queen of spades" by Pavel Lungin received the awards of the Golden eagle film award (2017), as well as the audience award at the Black Nights festival in Tallinn, the military drama "Battalion" - the Grand Prix of the festival "Fast lion" in South Africa, or "African Oscar". Started at the box office in early 2018, Oleg Trofim's film " Ice " has already won the audience award at the international festival in Serbia Ravno Selo Film Festival.
